The latest Android update for Google TV includes a useful feature that makes it easier to find your lost remote. Android Authority reports that the Android 14 TV beta, announced at Google I/O last week, includes a new Find My Remote feature.
Google TV has a button you can press to play audio on the remote for 30 seconds. This only works with supported Google TV remotes. To stop the sound, press any button on the remote control.
AFTVNews spotted the same message appearing on the Onn Google TV 4K Pro streaming box that Walmart released earlier this month with support for the new Find My Remote feature. It also shows a switch to turn it on or off and a button to test the sound.
According to AFTVNews, pressing a button on the front of the Onn streaming device launches the remote search feature, which beeps and flashes a small LED if the included remote control is within 30 feet of the device.
Find My Remote support in Android 14 suggests it’s not exclusive to Walmart and will come to other Google TV devices. It appears that older Google TV remotes that lack built-in speakers will not be able to support this feature even when connected to Google TV devices updated to Android 14.
We asked Google to clarify when the Android 14 TV update will be released and which devices it will support.
