Replacing your Apple TV remote lets you block Siri

Replacing your Apple TV remote lets you block Siri

Apple TV has many benefits, but Siri Remote is controversial to say the least. If you like telling semi-intelligent robots what to do, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better remote control. However, if you’re looking for a traditional TV viewing experience, voice control may not be for you. This replacement Apple TV remote has all the buttons you missed in the good old days.
Designed as a replacement for the Apple TV and Apple TV 4K remote, the Function101 Button Remote gives you easier access to all the features built into your streamer. For a limited time, the Function101 remote control will retail for $23.97 (regularly $29.95).
Let’s say you’re watching TV late at night while everyone else in the house is sleeping. In this case, the last thing you want to do is say out loud “Siri, turn on Netflix” when you just want to turn on something quietly. There’s also a certain irony in waking up a family by telling the TV to turn down the volume.
The Function101 remote control does not require voice commands and has buttons for most common functions such as volume control, power, mute and menu access. Connecting it to your TV is easy and simple. Infrared technology requires line of sight within 12 meters to operate.
As our own Leander Kani wrote in his review of the Function101 Button Remote, it’s a great alternative if you don’t like the Siri remote.
“I’m a little old-fashioned and often too lazy to learn new ways of doing things, so I like push-button remote controls,” he writes. “It’s all very familiar and easy to use, even in the dark. This replacement Apple TV remote is so secure that it’s easy to find if it gets lost among the couch cushions.”
A Cult of Mac Deals customer also raved about the remote, saying it allows their family to have multiple remotes for one TV.
“The remote is amazing,” they wrote. “I bought 3 pieces and I’m very happy about it. Works great with Apple TV. It’s crazy that my husband and I each had to have a remote control. I recommend it to everyone.”
Just make sure you and the other remote owners are on the same page about what to watch, otherwise it will be a channel-switching battle.
